A few words from our new President:   "I want to thank everyone for their vote of confidence.  I only hope that I can do as good a job at leading our chapter as Tom has done during the years he served as president, and when Doug was holding this office in the past.  I feel we have very good members in our chapter and I'm looking forward to working with all of you".  Randy DonCarlos

Since three of our officers attended the 2010 Rendezvous at Stanton, AZ in February, our chapter received a free GPAA membership kit.  This was presented to Larry Lasater at our March meeting.  We welcome him and his wife into our chapter!

Gold and Treasure Show in Oklahoma City, OK:  Don’t forget about the GPAA Gold and Treasure Show on May 22 and 23, 2010.  If you plan to attend let an officer know and if you plan to help set up.  The Chapter receives credit for any members helping.

May meeting:  Outing at Randy May’s farm on May 7, 8, & 9, 2010

When can I arrive?  You can arrive Friday evening.  I know of several people who will be there on Friday.  Some people will come for just Saturday. That is O.K. too.  By Sunday afternoon most people have gone home.

Where do I stay?   For those of you who don’t rough it much, Mexico has several nice hotels. A lot of people will stay at the May’s.  People will stay in tents, trucks, or RV.

What is the 1st thing I do upon arriving?  After finding a place to park, please find Roenna Johnston. You will need to sign an Indemnity & Release of Liability and the monthly raffle.

Is there a schedule of events?  Yes!! On Saturday, you are fairly free to do what you like. We have a pile of material that you can work. If there is water in the creek, you can set up and work in the creek. The metal detector hunt will start on 1:00.  Please sign up by 12:45.  When you sign up, please make a donation for the metal detector hunt.

The pot luck will start at 5:00. After the pot luck, there will be a meeting.  If everyone is not too tired, how about a having a bonfire??

What kind of equipment do I bring?  Bring a pan, high banker, sluice, or metal detector.  For those of you that are new, just speak up.  Someone will show you what to do.

What about bad weather? If the weather is bad, a decision will be made on Wed, May 5th if the outing will be a go.  I will send an email and if you don’t have mail please call Roenna at 816- 690-3596.

Thermal City:  Start planning your trip to Thermal City, North Carolina for our 2-day common dig on June 10 and June 11.  Some of our members are planning on going down a few days earlier to start finding that gold!  Remember we won’t have a meeting in Wellington that month.  The main cabin rentals have already been reserved at Thermal City, but there are plenty of campsites available.  You might want to give Lloyd Nanney a call to reserve your spot if you want to stay there.  The phone number is 828-286-3016.  The website is www.huntforgold.com if you want more information.  There are also plenty of motels within a few miles.

Northwest Missouri’s Club of Friends, Prospectors, and Metal Detectors:  This is a new group of our members who are meeting in St. Joseph, MO each month to talk about gold and metal detecting.  The next meeting will be on April 18, 2010 at 3:00 p.m. at the Pizza Shoppe of St Joseph, MO 2229 North Belt Highway.  The rest of their meeting dates are:   May 16, June13, July 18, August 15, September 19, October 17 and November 21 all at 3:00 p.m.   All are invited to attend and there will be some outings scheduled.   More info as I get it.

It is with great regret and sadness that we wish to inform the chapter that Sue Gabriel, Tom's mother, passed away Thursday March 25, 2010. Sue, a member of the SMGP, came to many meetings and outings. Sue requested a small memorial service in her home. In lue of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to North Care Hospice, 2900 Clay Edwards Dr., North Kansas City, MO 64116, or contact Sue Svec, 816-691-5249. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Final thought:  Some people come into our lives and leave a golden impression with us.
