March 2008 Newsletter

March 8, 2008 Meeting:  The March Meeting will be held at the Wellington Fair Building in Wellington, MO.  The directions to the building are: Take I-70 to the Odessa Exit (exit 37).  This is highway 131, take 131 north, cross 24 Hwy into Wellington.  The Wellington Fair Building is on the north east corner of the square.

The March Meeting is the first official meeting of the year. Don’t forget to sign up for the attendance raffle.  The most important business for this meeting is the Nomination of Officers.  If you would like to become an officer, just let me know, I’ll see you get nominated. Remember without volunteers we would not be able to have a club.

We will be having a pot luck, no theme, just bring what you like.  Judy Thompson does a great job of setting up these pot lucks. Thanks Judy!!

April 2008 Meeting: The April meeting will be the 18th, 19th and 20th.  The meeting will                                                                                                                      be held at the Mays and we are having a pig roast, metal detector hunt and election of officers. Doug is gathering up prizes and tokens for the metal detector hunt.  At this time he has 50 silver dimes and at least 600 wheat pennies as well as some great prizes. I will have directions to the Mays at the meeting. If you can’t attend the meeting, just call me. If you’re new to the club, I don’t put addresses or phone numbers of club members in the Newsletter. The newsletter is put on our website, and there are just too many crazy people out in this world.

Thermal City:  I will have a list started at the March Meeting for anyone interested in sharing a ride to Thermal City. If you can’t attend the meeting, just call (816-358-1847) or email me (www.showmegold.org) and I will put you on the list.  If you want to find a ride, I will then get you a copy of the list and you can call other people and make the arrangements.  I will have the list at the April Meeting.  The dates for Thermal City are May 15th & 16th.  Plan to attend. This is always a great time.

St. Louis Chapter??:  Doug has been talking to several of our members on the east side of the state.  There is interest in getting a chapter started.  Russ Pierce has sent away for information packet.  He is also looking for a place to hold meetings. It should be free and hold up to 100 people.  If you know of a place like that in or around St. Louis, let Russ or Doug know.

Final Thoughts: Doug and I learned a lot at the GPAA Officers Rendezvous.  One of the ideas was on Emergency Contact Information.   I will be giving a short talk (Doug has limited me to 10 minutes or less) on emergency contact information at the March Meeting.
